| How do you welcome in the year 2000? Give up? You have a big ole fat firework show and invite the whole City of Santa Barbara to show up fo free! That is exactly what happend. Approx 3-4000 people on hand for this one . Music was provided by Dave Wakeling formerly of the English Beat and General Public. I was your Host. I even got to do the countdown with the mayor while channel 3 was filming. I think it would be great if Santa Barbara did this every New Years Eve. Not everyone one wants to go get intoxicated down town. |

| I can’t think of a better way to spend the coming of a New Year than with fireworks and live music. This is my second year as Host/MC for the City of SB’s First Night. This New Years Eve 2001 was another big success much like last year. Carpenteria local band, The Upbeat, kicked off the celebration. Following was 13-year old country singing sensation Sarah Sigman. She is the youngest and newest member of the Academy of Country Music. The Final Band of the night was the ONE. The crowd was a good 3,000 and the One got everyone hyped. I brought my daughter up on stage. At 11 months, she managed to say a few “words” on the mic. Lots of families on hand to witness an unforgettable firework show. It was unbelievable. Looks like Santa Barbara has a new tradition. If you missed it this New Years, it will be back to kick of 2002. |
