Rick Thorne Interview
RT: It's been fun, watching Sal not do jack and drinking lots of coffee. BL: What was your favorite stop: London, France or Germany? RT: Crowd-wise, I would say France because everyone gets psyched. Skatepark-wise, I would say Germany -- although the crowd sucked there! BL: What is the deal with the half naked chicks in France at the event? RT: They think they need to do that to keep peoples' attention. They're just different over there; they think it's art to show off a woman's body. It's something they have always done and they just continue to do it. BL: What sticks out in your mind about the London demo? RT: The demo itself and seeing the Queen's Guards. We also went to McDonalds and even got coffee at Starbucks. BL: What else did you do in London? RT: I went to the CD store and bought the new Tupac CD. I don't know how he came out with a new record when he's been dead for years. BL: What is in store for your show, "X Today"? RT: I hear it's going to go weekly and be condensed to a half-hour instead of an hour; it will even have its own set time. It's my third year on the show and I am pumped because I get to make more of a name for the show. The thing about "X Today" is nobody writes my material for me, I get to just ad lib. The show has a format but it's still like a free-for-all. I'm an entertainer, not a commentator; that's what makes the show different. BL: This year you are ripping. It must feel good after injuring yourself last year. RT: I had knee surgery last year on my ACLs and it's starting to feel good again. When I am at home, I ride everyday street and parks. BL: What's this I hear about you being in a band? RT: The band is called All Scarred Up. I am in the band with my wife and another friend of mine named Sean. BL: Are you planning to have kids anytime soon? RT: I am in no rush right now because I'm on tour so much and plus my wife skates. It's not easy to skate when you're pregnant. BL: What else are you up to? RT: I got a part in a mini-movie coming up with my bro, Rooftop. I don't know the name yet. BL: Are you still competing as much as you used to? RT: I have done all the B3s and I plan to do all the X Trials and the X Games in Philly this year. I love to compete! BL: Where are you living these days? RT: I live in Orange County, but my address says Santa Ana. It's in the good part I call the hills of Santa Anna. BL: Thanks, Rick. I will see you on the East Coast leg of the Hawk Tour. RT: Cool. Thanks, dog. Kids, don't forget to always log on to EXPN for the latest news on the Tony Hawk Gigantic Skate Park Tour. |
